Plow size depends on soil type AND how fast you want to plow. Dad pulled 6-16 MF 880 plow with his MF 1100 he bought new from the MF dealer I worked for years ago. I had an 880 7-16 on land plow I pulled with an MF 1105 8 speed using third gear. Dealer also had one 1130 owner that was using an eight row twenty inch chisel planter in the 70s. The hydraulic system is closed center similar to JD also. Most were sold with the 12 speed MP transmission option, with six speed standard. the eight speed option started with the 05 series. Far as plow size goes, there were no 8 bottom MF plows in my area, and I remember plowing speed was slower when I was a kid too. Going from a 2-16 to 3-16 plow is a 50% increase, 6-16 to 7-16 is about 17% increase when you compare plow size that way.

Cylinders are the reason for the hydraulic circuit. They take the fluid power delivered from the pump and magically change it into mechanical power. There are many types of cylinders that one might run across on a farm scenario. Each one could take a chapter in
