SE Virginia they grow the big peanuts,Planters used to have a big elevator on US 460 around Waverly VA,sort of sandy type soil there.My grandfather used to grow about a 1/4 acre every year on his place just across the river from DC in Alexandria VA he had sandy type soil always raised some nice ones we'd roast them. He grew all sorts of things including regular and sweet potatoes.
