Randy, Im an old engineer and mostly JD tractor man and can hint on the hydraulics but help you more with the 12 v conversion. I think you may want to add a live hydraulic pump that fits behind the distributor on those models if memory serves me. Its been a while since I had an "M" and thats how I beefed up my hydraulics, i.e. a new live pump before and behind the distributor which the distributor then fits in to as a replacement for the wore out not live belly pump. Now to change to 12 volt. Replace all bulbs, replace 6 v regulator with new 12 v and polarize it according to directions. If its just got a cutout, just wire it up the same and it should charge 12 volts fine, Ive done it often. You will likely have to add a Ballast resistor in series with the coil which essentiall drops the 12 volts down to 6 volts across the coil. The trouble with converting farmalls is that dual charging resistor system which may give you fits. The starter does not have to be changed. Ive run many 6 v on 12 v and they ran fine and lasted forever. If you need more help on the conversion post back or e mail me. John T in Indiana jmn50@msn.com
