Talk to your surgeon about the the possibility of getting Heterotopicosification with this second surgery. In 2010 I had both hips replaced at the same time (bilateral). The surgeon used the wrong parts so 11 days later He put in some different parts. I was getting physical therapy and after three weeks I didn't have a good range of motion in my hips. Xrays revealed that I had Heterotopicosification. That is when you body thinks that it is healing bone instead of muscle. The muscle is turning into bone. I had to have both hips replaced again, this time with restrictive bands on them so the joint can't separate easily. According to articles I have read there is a 4% chance of getting Heterotopicosification with the first surgery but it jumps to 25% with the second one. A dose of radiation within 24 hours of the surgery will prevent this from occurring. They had to remove some of the affected muscle also so I don't function as well as I used to. I still walk good but squatting and bending is restricted quite a bit. I am restricted to only picking up 60 lbs. So I can't do as much work on tractors as I used to. I still stay busy though. I am 73 so I had the surgeries done when I was 63. At the last surgery the Surgeon said that I would never ride my motorcycle again. After each therapy session I would try to get on my bike. It took me 4 weeks to just be able to get my leg across it and sit on the seat. I still could not put my feet on the pegs. But 63 days after my last surgery I road the bike around the block. It was 36 degrees an sleeting but I was determined to ride again. It was very painful to ride but got easier as time went on. !8 months later I road from here (Central Texas) to San Diego, Ca, up the coast to Paso Robles and back home. I did this on a Harley Sportster because any larger bike is too heavy for me to handle. This trip was fantastic and just made me want todo more of them.
