The guy around here that used to saw had an IH pickup engine on it for awhile then got hold of an old Cat the same size as a D-7 to saw with. It would talk sometimes if he was on a bit of a hurry. He ran the whole mill carriage log roller and all with the cat engine. He has a 60 inch blade for it also. He used to put the bigger blade on for some of dads logs when he sawed for him. He didn't like to have to use the chainsaw to clip the little bit off for the slab on the first cut. After tha it would cut through the log. He could saw 24 foot pretty easy and told me about sawing some 28 ft stuff the guy brought his own crew to help with the log handling.
