A friend went that route. Thought he'd never have to sharpen a chain again. He found out that carbide chain, at least what he got, doesn't cut as well as traditional chain (took a lot more power out of the saw)due to different geometry on the tooth and that he had to get is ground at a shop to sharpen it. He got through about 3 sharpenings and hung the chain on the wall where it sit to this day. IMO it's a specialized product for specific applications and not a general purpose chain at all.
