In most cases, aftermarket parts are just fine. In many cases, they are made by the same folks that made the OEM parts. Not every part on a vehicle (be it a car, truck, or tractor) is made by the manufacturer. Many parts are sourced out to other manufacturers that specialize in those parts.
A good example is electrical parts. Many OEM electrical parts are made by bigger companies like Bosch or Siemens. Brakes tend to be made by Wagner, Lockheed, or Bendix. Parts are made for specific applications, but not necessarily by the vehicle manufacturer.
There are cases where only a good OEM part will do. I have seen a few examples where a third party part simply will not work right. But, those cases are relatively uncommon.
