You could try another bearing cap, but it probably won't line up with the other half of the bearing. The hole has to be round without offset for the new bearing to be useful. Engine blocks are assembled and line bored at the factory to get the caps to match the blocks, so because of casting differences, its not likely a mismatched cap will come close. The only use for plastigauge in an engine with inserts its to see if the inserts need replacing or the crank needs grinding. There's no other fitting adjustments to be done. Shimming generally isn't a permanent repair for wear because the inserts don't wear round, they wear in spots and aren't flexible to allow shimming only the worn spots. Gerald
