I have a 7 foot snow blower. Mine is perhaps a more low volume, or light weight, model. With a smaller fan. But it is two stage, cross auger and a separate fan.
80hp was more than needed. I was replacing bolts a lot, even some gears once.
The 27 hp of my little tractor is kind of low, but with the very slow reverse gear (3 reverse speeds) it works well for me.
The 45 hp tractor with only one reverse gear the hp was ok but it went too fast, so it wasn’t about the hp, it was about the speed.
I think my 60 hp tractor would be fine with it, it has 2 reverse speeds.
I tried to ask the same question you did when I bought the blower 35 years ago, and they wouldn’t give a real answer.
I think having a slow reverse speed is more important than just raw hp. It’s pretty easy to overload the cross auger by shoving too much snow, more then thr fan can handle. With my 80 hp tractor that made broken parts. With my 27 hp tractor it means the engine pulls down a little, and I step,on the clutch and let it clear. But no broken parts.
So, I guess it is kind of a complex answer.
Live pto, and multiple reverse speeds is a really good thing.

Today's Featured Article - Hydraulics - Cylinder Anatomy - by Curtis von Fange. Let’s make one more addition to our series on hydraulics. I’ve noticed a few questions in the comment section that could pertain to hydraulic cylinders so I thought we could take a short look at this real workhorse of the circuit. Cylinders are the reason for the hydraulic circuit. They take the fluid power delivered from the pump and magically change it into mechanical power. There are many types of cylinders that one might run across on a farm scenario. Each one could take a chapter in
