I grew up between the towns of New Ulm and Courtland, located along the Minnesota River in Minnesota. The smaller of the two was Courtland, who had a Massey-Ferguson dealer. He sold a number of tractors, but more manure spreaders and balers. The larger town had so many dealers of implements that I may have forgotten some of the smaller ones, but here goes: John Deere was sold by Forsberg and Pengilly, then Pengilly only, followed by Potter Implement, which then became part of a huge regional dealer, and quit here. IH was sold by a hardware store called Fesenmaier Bros. It was bought out and moved to an intersection south of town, became embroiled in a price-fixing scheme and is now no longer in business. Another hardware store on main street known as Wagner hardware sold New Idea. They sold a lot of corn pickers. Oliver was sold on the north end of town by Biebl Bros. Allis Chalmers was handled by two men named Kral and Lamecker, then bought out by Bill Gafford, who moved it out near the IH dealer. He sold out to a man named Grams, and when he quit AC no longer was in town. To get AC service or parts we have dealers in nearby Redwood Falls, Lafayette and Smith Mills. Case was represented by a man named Clauss, who also sold Chevy and Buick cars, but in another building. Probably one of our busiest people in the business was a man named Marvin Peterson, who sold Ford and New Holland during the war years and the Ford N days. He traveled a lot and sold to many people from out of the area. Some of these people also sold some short-line products such as Gehl and Minnesota Ind., the prison products.

From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
