Toss some Brahman into the pedigree and you solve that problem...Hence the breed Brangus. ⅝ Aberdeen Angus for the nice meat, and ⅜ Brahman to get them out of the shade in the summer. Accounts for about 80% of the herds you see around here and was my breed for decades.
On the comment about the old man selling his cows, I dumped mine in 2014 for that reason....age.....and low and behold, would you guess, I bought a Generac House standby generator and a 250 gallon Propane tank to run it, among other things. Tired of getting the FEL out with a portable gen., some extension cords and some gas cans out when this kind of weather hits.
So far we have been lucky as we got about 4" of snow last night and that has been the precip. Folks south, where the weather is warmer are getting some icing and that is a no no for killing power. I checked the Texas electrical grid consumption this morning and we have plenty of juice available. Last night and tonight are the benchmarks. After that it's back up near freezing for a couple more days then over 32.
I never did like the idea of a Total Electric House and they sell a lot of them down here....power company even gives you a discount on your elect. bill. Just doesn't cover all the bases. I like some backup.
