Was posted in the N board...... Found it interesting enough to move it up here. Bought this 8n Saturday. Story was it was running poorly, and dropped off at a heavy equipment mechanic. They never got to it so a friend of mine bought it and called me. We bought it, got it home and found the gas tank had leaves and pine straw clogging the screen in tank. Gas flow was terrible. Thought " easy fix" nope still wouldn't stay running more than a couple seconds. Wife said to swap carbs, had a freshly built one on the shelf. When we took old one off we found part of a valve guide in the top of it. Off with the hood, head, alternator, manifold, valve covers. .... Found the problem. Also found the other parts. One was up by the #2 cylinder area about to drop back into the manifold. So.......what tools will I need to put this back together? Watched Rachel on a video and she had a spring compressor..... And she used lapping compound with a special tool. Also opinion on where to get the parts? She mentioned adjustable lifters??? If replace valves how do you adjust them?? I don't see a way on the ones we took out. '47 8n......
Also 6 of the 8 valves were missing the rubber ring around them??

Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
