This is true. Just look at what you pay for the clothing. It hasn't gone up and in many cases has gone down over the years, for brands like Carhartt. You can't drop price to compete with the cheap house brands at places like Walmart, Tractor Supply, Runnings, etc, and maintain the legendary quality that once set you apart. Something has to give.
People see generic brown duck outerwear in the store, and it's cheap, so that's what sells. Most don't wear it enough to challenge the durability. Carhartt had two choices: Go with the flow, or go out of business.
