Crude oil jumped from 61 dollar per barrel to 66 dollar per barrel in a weeks time.. This causes a price rise in gasoline at the pump. Many oil companies have to blend ethanol at 10 per cent to a gallon of regular gas for some air quality rules. Bulk ethanol went from 1.30 a gallon to 1.80 a gallon in the last 4 months. So it is more expense for the oil company to purchase bulk ethanol for blending. Gasoline is reformulated to a summer blend in March which increases the cost to make it. All these cost increases are reflected in the pump price and these increases are passed on to the consumer. Regular gas is 2.69 here (IN) , won't be surprised for it to go good bit higher as spring arrives.
