Agriculture was once thought of as a bunch of country hicks with some animals, some tools, and dirty clothes. The industry has developed way beyond that. Literally to the point of high-tech. The agronomy and animal husbandry involved now is amazing. The genetics has propelled us beyond anything our fathers would have guessed at. If you factor in the logistics and production, medicine, and support the industry as a whole is expansive. Think of a convenience store. Stop and look at all the items on the shelves and notice how many have an agricultural link. My brother recently retired. He worked as a food chemist for a handful of companies, but one instance sticks in my mind. During his Pillsbury days he was on the team that developed Toaster Streudel. That required market research and he came to understand that the majority of the buying public doesnt see beyond the store shelves. That box with 6 prepackaged treats involved many hands of agriculture at many levels and started before any seed was put in the ground.
