one little problem with a gear reduction starter is rpms, I'm assuming you are using this on a diesel a lot of which not all don't start well being spun over at a low rpm, not saying that the gear reduction starters don't work they are a lot of them used, but i have ran into a couple of scenarios where the extra cost of the gear reduction starter did little to correct a starting issue, that would have been more cost effective to have rebuilt or replaced the direct drive starter and installed enough battery to do the job. neighbor bought a 2640 jd from me that i had replaced the factory 6 volts with 2 12 volt 650 cca batteries one of the batteries went bad with him and the local rebuilder talked him into replacing a good direct drive starter with an expensive aftermarket gear reduction one claiming it would start with one battery, even though it will start under good conditions to this day it has never started the same as it did.
