I've done the wedge thing but you run the risk of bending it enough it won't seal so you get air noise or you have to poke a hole in the seal or end up tearing the rubber seal. Some door handles are situated to where you can't get at the door handle. With the chip key inside, I've had better luck pushing down on the unlock button if the wire is stiff enough to have the force to do it. Sometimes easier to do from the passenger side.
If she doesn't have a spare chip key, then you can avoid warping the door or damaging the rubber seal by biting the bullet and going to the dealer to get one. They can match off the VIN I believe. No matter what you still need a spare key. I keep a spare chip key hidden in the glove box for the times when I have the pickup somewhere and forgot the keys. Then I have a plain ol flat key wired in the grill or somewhere. Don't put a remote clicker in there cause then it won't lock, just a remote key. But for the typical locked key in the vehicle you don't need one in the glove box. For the spare keys that now have the black plastic handles with no chip, I just grind the plastic off and carry one in my wallet since the older I get the more often I can leave the key inside. Or the dog will jump up there and lock me out sometimes.
