A couple of guys started Polaris in the 50's (even made straw choppers for combines). One of the guys broke with Polaris and started Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls around 1962 or 63. They were at first called Polar then changed to Arctic Cat. Early ones had the polar bear on the side as does this one. Same guy invented ASV compact track loaders before he died.
