My powerstroke absolutely hates any oil except the conventional 15-40 Rotella I was at the shop getting some other work done on my truck and was being lazy and just had them change the oil while they were working on it. They put in Mobile 1 synthetic 15-40 and it ran terrible and got hot quick when pulling. I thought maybe it was fuel issues and fiddled with it for months. As soon as the next oil change came up and I put Rotella back in it, it was like a different truck.
No idea why these engines like Rotella but I have not ever had any luck with synthetic in the powerstrokes.
Maybe yours is different, I would be interested to see how yours runs on that oil. Since it is still Rotella it might be fine.
