As a kid I thought is was a waste of time. We shoveled out of the mill into a stock tank then filled feed sacks with the beans, it might of got rid of some pods and weed seeds, but I think we made just as many cracked/half beans if we left them alone. On Grandma's sale I looked in the building where we kept the beans and it was just storage for aunt and uncle, but Dad's brother forgot about 50 bushels of oats in the second story, by this time bugs had them ground to nothing.
