Lots easier to sabotage a wooden pole than a steel one.
Besides, that's WORK. I thought vandals didn't want to work... Oh yeah, they don't... That's why you don't see electric poles cut down by vandals ever.
Electric companies have been using steel towers for transmission lines since there has been electricity. I don't see why this is so strange and confusing.
