Sorry Caterpillar guy it is not theory, it is a requirement that causes many to fail their test. It has been told about here on YT too. It goes without saying that there are situations where you have to get well over to the left when making a tight right turn, but you see it everyday, just as I do, that drivers get much further to the left than they need to, inviting an idiot that is not paying attention to zip right in there. The correct procedure is to get to the left as far as possible without opening a lane on your right, then to use the other side of the road as you come around the apex of the corner. This can require patience to wait for the lane to open up, but the good professional driver has patience.
