I did that once. I informed my boss that I was done with OTR. Things went well for about 6 months. Then he handed me a 2-day trip. I told him that this violates our agreement. I did have an agreement with him that I was going to be home every night without exception or I would simply find another way to make a living. No hard feelings.
My answer to the 2-day trip was that it would be a deal breaker. He begged me wile insisting that he had nobody else to send. I told him that his lack of dispatching expertise was not my problem, but that I would go - as my last trip.
He said what do you mean last trip? I said that when I got back, I would clean out the truck and be on my way to greener pastures. Some time later that evening, I got a call from the owner of the company. He told me that he had somebody else to go and that I did not need to quit.
Were they testing me? Did I pass? All I know for sure is that I called their bluff and they blinked first.
