Awhile back I post about what to do for my rotten 4x36 hay rake tire. I figured Id show you what I did. I got some good ideas from the first post, most of which I didnt follow! I took some 16 gauge sheet metal that I had and welded a 6 inch strip around the rim. Then I stretched the old tire over that and bolted it to the sheet metal. So lets check the boxes. Is it ugly as sin? Yup. Were there at least 10 better ways to do it? Yup. Will it function well enough to rake 6 or 7 acres? Yup. Key lessons learned: 1) shear cut metal is as sharp as you think it is got the cuts to prove it. 2) A 4 inch 80 year old tire is much harder to stretch onto a 6 inch rim than one would think it is. A new tire and tube was between $300 and $400. My fix cost 1day screwing around in the shop and $4.54 in nuts and bolts so Ill take it. As always thank you all for you experience and help.
