The difference now vs then is the Internet. Parts are no longer an issue because you can always find someone online that will ship you the parts you need.
If an established servicing dealer is handling them, though, it might be worth a look. Many of these dealers are displaced big brand dealers that got pushed out by some mega-dealership taking over their territory. Some guy in a portable office trailer on an otherwise vacant lot on the edge of town, on the other hand, you probably want to shy away from as he is a fly-by-night and will be gone in short order.
