Back when we caught them I was stationed at Damneck Va naval base. Right on the edge of Va. Beach was a big pile of rocks in the inlet and we would go out on that pile of rocks and tie chicken necks to a string and wait a while. Then slowly pull them up and another person would stand ready with a long handle net to catch any crabs that didn't let go. Worked pretty good as long as we did it at low tide. If you where on the pile of rocks as high tide hit you where in trouble since the water came up so you had to try to swim off the pile of rocks
