Piggyback pump is power steering only and has a separate relief. One other thing what does the oil look like if you run a hose into a pail? If foaming it is sucking air. What does the filter look like? If the
screen on the side of the filter is plugged the filter is way plugged. The screen is a bypass. Does it sound like it is going onto pressure? Piggy back pump you put a gauge into the port on the pump and turn
the steering until it goes on high pressure lock to lock. Caution those tractors have a rack the can break if you are not hearing go onto pressure. Note if the main pump fails the piggy back also doe as it is
driven off the main pump shaft. I have seen the gear that drives the pump split and pieces fall inside.[/quote]
Thanks for your thoughts on this ....
After pulling the pump, the front drive gear looks good, tight, no wobble. Gears inside seem to be moving smoothly, no visible signs of gear issue. After pulling "piggy-back" pump, noticed a slight clicking noise in the main pump. All O rings and seals look good. After hearing the sound it made when the hydraulics went out I was assuming I would find some definite damage... However, I am assuming there could be internal damage not visible. Oil is clean no foaming or milky color. Guess my question now is.... should both the main pump and piggy - back be replaced?
