Dad and uncle bought the plow new with a 5020 in 1970. They were growing a lot of continuous corn, and corn blight meant swapping the chisel plow for a moldboard plow to bury more residue. The 5020 pulled the plow for 10 seasons... and ended its life prematurely when my dad and 5020 got hit with a train!
Dad walked away, the 5020 died. A 4840 and then 4850 pulled the plow after that, with a 10 foot disk hooked to the back to complete one pass tillage.
I'm told the 5020 would handle the plow in 3rd gear. The goal was not to see how deep or fast one could plow, just to bury the residue.
I'm not certain, but I think this was the biggest plow in the Deere catalog in about 1969 or 70... and plow technology changed significantly in the 70's, with greater clearance, variable width, etc.
