Wife and I have 14 hours in the barn over several days on the cub (28 hours total). Some one put a long screw in distributor to hold points. Inner plate bent and shear pin sheared. Luckily we had a spare. Remove hood and gas tank. Checked compression, zero on #1. Remove carb, manifold, air breather, valve cover and head. Stuck valves. Lots of lube and got them moving. Coolant passages were full of sandy rust. Filled block up with vinegar and let sit a couple days. Soaked head in bucket of vinegar. Cleaned everything up good. Set valves. 6 had zero clearance. 2 were close. Drained vinegar and flushed cooling system several times. New head gasket. Made a valve cover gasket. Cover back on. Head, manifold,air breather back on. Cleaned carb. Back on. Redid plug wires. Re wired everything. Set timing. Install distributor. No start.......ahhhhhh. different coil, points and condenser. Fired right up. Won't shift into 1st or reverse. Pull shift plate. Transmission full of water. And rust. Drained 2+ gallons. Clean it up good. One shift rail covered in rust. After several hours of cleaning, poking and prodding it works. Fill radiator. Top hose leaks. Trip to town. New hose on. Fill tranny with gear oil. Fill final drives with gear oil. Drive it around. All good. Back in shop. Drop wheel weights, drop rear cultivators. Jack it up block it good.Remove left tire, remove left final drive. Replace brake, rod had rusted off. Final drive on tire on. Hood and gas tank still off. New rear tires arrive tomorrow. $106 each. $33 tubes each. Got a bit more to do but it's a runner. This is how previous owner did the plug wires. I may have forgotten something.....
