Hi Mr. DeBoef. I fully agree with you about our schools. I live in Marquisville, an 'unincorporated' village in Polk County between Des Moines and Ankeny. Our Grandson graduated last Sunday with 95 of his classmates, so as you can see, we're a small district. Nice thing about being small is we know every school board member, the school Principals and Superintendent. My wife worked there for 32 years as a 'Lunch Lady', retiring as Kitchen Manager. She has no degree, but between you and I, I believe the Custodians and lunchroom workers have a better handle on the day to day goings on than the individual teachers. The child that needs to see a smiling face or even a hug is SO important, and these people care. We're all neighbors; the unfortunate reality is our small district has become a 'stepping stone' for newly graduated teachers so there isn't the continuation of people as they move to more lucrative teaching positions elsewhere.
