Neat picture that brought back memories of hours of plowing with a JD "jump-up" 2-16s. It bobbed along with the tail wheel in the air when it was out of the groung. I think a 1936 or 1937 model.
But what charmed me was that 8870. I was a part of the design team tasked with a new4W design to compete better with Versatile and others, moving away from the JD V-8, fewer parts, lower cost, repairable in the distant fields with major pieces removable in the field so that the whole tractor had to be transported back to the shop. First use of all glass cab door, automotive-type airconditioning. Our team reduced the number of parts by 40%.
