Two things I'd first put an in line filter in the gas line to catch those small specks of rust that will pass thru the sediment bowl.2nd check for intake leaks,my 1550 and my 66 were doing similar to your 1550.Apparently the intake will warp on the Olivers, the 1550 was hardly noticeable but the 66 which kept running worse and worse had clearly warped upwards.Good used replacement manifolds fixed both of them they will now idle right down and accelerate smoothly.Also when installing the manifolds tighten the bolts first that apply pressure to the intake ports to make sure they square up to the head.
