Mean rascal's to work on : ( intake was integral to the head (maybe exhaust manifold) with all those pipes disassembly was a bear... Cracked heads were common. Valve cover leaked it would cook a gasket pert near impossible to stop the leak but what chebby valve cover till the Vortec came out did not leak...
Ignition timing was always over advanced the carbs were lean it was a feat to tame the advance and tune that carb... You were gonna get burnt messing around the engine with all those pipes : (
They used that carb on other engines I use to buy the parts in a assortment so I did not have to buy a kit for one little part. I still have tools to adjust the main metering system. Later on they went electronic you removed the center cover added more fuel to it enjoy the check engine light its gonna light up BUT it will run good now...
Those were miserable years EFI solved the evolution of emission carbs/systems...
