If you have a volt meter, put it across the battery. A fully charged battery will have about 12 1/2 volts. If low, or the voltage drops to near 0 when cranking, you have a discharged or bad battery.
Try charging it, get it started. With it running and the engine revved up (the charger removed) the voltage should show an increase, probably not much as the charge system is minimal, but it should show an increase from idle or not running.
If it won't charge, the battery is bad.
If it charges, but still no crank, there is a bad connection or a bad starter.
