> I calibrated Simpson 260 at USNAD Crane, In back in the 60s while I was in college on a co-OP program. Yes the 260 was considered the Gold standard then until digital technology came around. The 260 is best kept on a work bench and not bounced around in a dirty worktruck. The mechanic meter movement is fragile. Connect it to high voltage on a low scale and watch the needle bend. Leaving it on the ohmmeter settings and measure 220v. Then watch the smoke come out. Ask me how I know?
I used 260s for many years, and I agree with everything you say, George.
It seems everyone who has worked around military electronics has a Simpson 260 story. I knew a guy who had worked in the avionics shop at an Army base. He claimed that the folks in the shop discovered they could order the front panel of a 260, everything but the case, as a repair part. And of course the case could also be ordered separately. Which everybody in the shop did, and they all took home their personal Simpson 260s.

After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
