First and foremost, keep your eyes open. I had a tractor that my Dad sold show up on Craigslist out of the blue, 18 years after the fact. They wanted stupid money for it, and would not budge on the price, so I passed on it. It showed up again here about a month ago on a road that I often travel. Still haven't been by when anyone is home to ask them about it.
What were the circumstances of the sale? If it was traded into a dealer then your best bet is to go to that dealer and see if they will look it up in their records. If it was sold at auction, find the auctioneer. If it was sold cash deal to a stranger, well, you're probably out of luck.
There may be issues with sharing records like that, as they have no idea who you are and no interest in vetting you and verifying your story before giving out personal information. I know here at work it's a thing called "PCI" and you get in big trouble sharing customer information; you can even go to jail.
Regardless of how you go about it, finding the tractor will be a long shot.

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener.
