On Friday morning at 8:30 AM I headed west to Kansas for the The Big Dig held near Concordia,KS on Aug 27-29th...It was held on the Kocher farm...It was hosted by Prairie Plowing Days and by the International Convention and Old Equipment Exposition..I arrived at Salina,KS about 2 PM and spent the rest of the day hunting old one room schools in northern Saline and southern Cloud County Kansas..I spent the night at Salina and was up early on Saturday morning to be 40 miles to the north at the Kocher farm by 8 AM..

Saturday was a very hot day with temps in the upper 90's plus there was a 20-30 MPH south wind which made for lots of dust at times..It was pretty dry out there and they needed a rain which they got early Sunday morning...No dirt work or plowing was done at the show today..Thanks to the hosts for having free bottled water at several key locations or none of us could have made it thru the day..I'm in my 70's and walked 5-6 miles during the 8 hours that I was at the show. This show was spread out over a large area....They had wagons to haul people around and lots brought their own transportation.....It took lots of volunteers put this show on..

This group of pictures shows the (3) 60 Cats on the 50 bottom plow set up...They worked for 3-4 hours on Friday trying to get the plows set up right-etc...It took lots of changing hitch locations-etc..Lots of work, time, and money went in to setting this up...No,they probably didnt do a perfect job of plowing but I give them a big thumbs up for doing this...It was absolutely awesome to see.

They only plowed for 400 ft or so and quit because they were running way late....They tore the hitch down and then let the Cats,Steamers, and Prairie tractors pull the plows seperately.

I have many more pictures to post but I will start new topics on them..

Today's Featured Article - Listening to Your Tractor - by Curtis Von Fange. Years ago there was a TV show about a talking car. Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo. ... [Read Article]
