The drawbar length standard is really only important for implements that have a fixed shaft down the tongue with a short telescoping shaft with u-joints on either end centered above the hitch pin. With this style of implement the 14 drawbar length ensures that both u-joints are angled equally during turns, thus cancelling out the speed fluctuations that each produces individually.
The problem with pull-type mowers like yours is that essentially all the angle is taken up by the single u-joint at the front. Because there's no equally-angled u-joint to cancel it out you'll end up with vibration and chatter. The best solution for when just a single u-joint gets angled is to use a CV joint.
The longer you make your drawbar the closer to being equal angle your two u-joints will become and in theory it will reduce vibration. However, I doubt you'll notice much improvement without making the drawbar freakishly long at which point other issues like driveline length and overlap will become a problem.
