koenton,
You need to better describe your issue. First you should tell that your tractor has a diesel engine. When you say it isn't firing that implies it is a gas engine and not having spark at the plugs to many of us. I am thinking you may mean you have no 12 volt power to the ignition switch and the starter is not operating, so the engine will not crank over to start. Is my description correct?
What did you do to check the ammeter? It is likely you missed hooking up, broke a wire or pulled a wire out of place between the ammeter and switch during your work. Start by being sure you have battery voltage at the ammeter, in and out (both terminals). Look for a wire going from the ammeter terminal to the ignition switch (should not be on the terminal battery power is connected to).
Here is a link to a 135 Operators manual you can download and save: MF135 Operator's Manual . You can download and save it. It has wiring diagrams for diesel and gas tractors. You will have to work through the wiring as most good wiring diagrams are going to include the lighting circuits if the tractors were equipped with lights, as these do.

From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
