On 9-11 I was putting a metal roof on a house across town.I had come home to get some tools, when I heard something about it come over the radio. It was a local station with very little info.I went to the job and found the man and his wife sitting in their living room watching the news.I spent the rest of the day and part of the night sitting there with them watching the news. They had cable,I had rabbit ears on my TV set. When Kennedy was shot I was in the second grade. It was my sixth birthday, and the kids were all about to sing happy birthday to me.The principle ran into the room and whispered to the teacher, and they both ran out crying. The teacher leaving the room like that usually meant an opportunity for us kids to erupt, but we just didn't know how to react about the teacher running out crying.I remember all 18 of us kind of looking at each other, not knowing what was going on.
