Barnyard, you are correct to a slight degree. Approx. ten years ago the regs were reviewed and many nit-picking ones were changed or eliminated. Their objective in the changing as they put it, and you can read about it on the FMCSA site if you care to be informed, was to make the rules more PERFORMANCE oriented in order to give the driver more leeway to do his job to get it done safely rather than to just adhere to a book. It also enables a not so bright driver to get it wrong and be in violation, because he is not given step by step to the letter instructions.
