Can't give info specific to that engine, but in general, if there was fuel in the tank, and no air introduced, it won't need priming or purging.
If you had the system open, it may have air in it now, but that's probably not why it would not start initially.
How is the engine shut down? Electric solenoid or mechanical linkage? Can you hear the solenoid click or see that the linkage is moving? That would be the first think to check if it was starting and running and suddenly failed without warning.
If you think there is air in the system, look for air bleed ports, manually bleed the filters and lines, then crack loose the lines at each injector, crank the engine until you get solid fuel, tighten the lines. Just be careful not to overheat the starter. But if there was a preexisting fuel problem, the lines will not bleed with any amount of cranking.
I would not go deeper until you have a good game plan. Too easy to multiply problems and costs.

On our first cosmetic restoration, not having a manual, we carefully marked the wires, taped the magneto in the position it came off, and were careful not to turn the engine over while we had these components off. We thought we could get by with this since the engine ran perfectly and would not need any internal work. After the cleanup and painting was done, we began reassembly and finally came to t
