About 20 years ago we flew out to pick up a burn patient who had been sitting at home drinking beer when his wife arrived home from work after dark and complained to him about ice in the driveway. 'I'll fix that ice' he said as he headed out the door. He retreived a 5-gallon can of gasoline from the garage and proceeded to pour it on the driveway. When he lit it it exploded quite violently, blowing him off from his feet, and he landed in the fire. He was badly burned. I landed on the road at the end of his driveway and in talking with the firemen on the scene they said the heat from the explosion and fire all went up and did nothing to remove the ice. In that this method has been tried and failed with disastrous results I am compelled to advise against it.
