I had the Long 445 which is basically the same tractor, that was 30-31 years ago and it was trouble from day one with me. First off, the lift quit working and had to have it repaired, then the crank broke, took sometime to round up the parts, I remember it took over 6 months to get a set of rings and head gasket for it. Then there was the pto issue as you just described with the AC. Before and after I had engine rebuilt when temps got in the 50s and lower it would not crank without starting fluid. I may have had a lemon but thats what I have to say about the Fiat engine. My uncle had a Long 350 or 360 about this same time, his was the same way, starter fluid to crank it or you could not crank it.
