Change the chain from being centered to three or four links offset so it pulls the beam just a bit crooked. Then when you turn the proper direction you will not scatter as many rocks to the outside. You are limited to turning only one way all the time though. You will figure it out. Traction wise you need a heavier horse with bar tread tires or at least a heavier horse.
I have all the toys, a box scraper, front loader and back blade but the old yard drag I made out of a couple heavy angle irons still gets the most use for smoothing out the yard rock.
