Been trying to track down a fuel leak on my John Deere 50 LP. The vapor valve had an obvious leak in it which leaked all the LP out last fall. Got a replacement a few weeks ago and put it in. Had some fuel added, but the gauge was still going down.
The other day I put some soapy water in a spray bottle and squirted it on every fitting and connection I could find. The new part I put in did not show any leaks, but I started getting bubbles from the fitting on top of the tank which I have circled.
According to the owner's manual this is apparently a vapor return for when you fuel from a large LP tank. I have never filled it that way. I take it to a place which fills the small tanks. They connect their line to the large fitting and use the bleeder on top of the tank to release any excess vapor.
So I guess what I'm asking is--do I need this fitting, or can it be replaced with a regular plug of some sort? My regular LP supplier has been reluctant to get involved with this in the past. If necessary I can check with them again I guess. Thoughts?
