A guy on Y tube posts about his soybean harvest, might be IA farmer. His combine started making unusual noises and smelling of smoke, he could detect the smell from the cab. He pulled lots of shields after evacuated his dog and computer monitors from the cab Soys produce tons of dust and are yielding almost record bushels acre. He finally found smoldering trash in back of the rotor around the beater discharge cylinder . He drove to near a hydrant and was able to douse the smoldering area with water. He and his Dad suspect the bearing on the beater discharge shaft behind the rotor had gone out and thats what produced the noise & nearly caught the combine on fire. This was an an STS bullet rotor 9660. You might check your bearings & shafts in the back of the machine for excess play on your morning maintenance check to be safe. Carry some type if fire extinguisher with you.
