Sorry but that was not a trick question. The question was reasonable, I've heard such asked before. Good for you, you did it and it has lasted 20 years for you. Are you advocating people just use pipe, instead of getting proper pins? Doing that is one of those things one might do on their own, but I don't think it should be put out in public as ok to do, as someone with no experience may read this, think you had a great idea, stick a pipe in place of a pin and have a failure which injures (or worse) someone.
Sorry if this upsets you but I do not see advocating this on a public forum is a proper thing to do. And passing it off as a trick question is just trying to make yourself look smarter than those that say pipe is not the right answer, including the people who designed and produced the loader. Just my opinion, others will vary, have a good day.
