They're plugging Medicare Advantage plans, which are an alternative to traditional Medicare. Obviously there's a lot of money in it, and of course there's a reason these private plans can make outlandish claims: They intend to provide you with a lower standard of care than you would get with traditional Medicare. In particular, you'll have to stay in their network. Also, they hope to skim off the healthiest of Medicare-eligible patients, and leave those with serious health problems to traditional Medicare.
