One Marine Corps birthday I'll never forget was 1959.
On a Wednesday morning, November 10, 1959 a Marine Gunnery Sergeant, Mac and I rode a bus from Atsugi, Japan to Tachikawa Air Force Base outside of Tokyo to catch a MATS flight back to the States. Since the next day was Veteran's Day, our flight would not leave until Friday, the 12th. They put Mac and I in a room in the transit barracks with two Air Force T/Sgts.
It was a big night at the NCO Club with live entertainment, so we all went, in uniform. When word got around the club that it was the Marine Corps Birthday and there were two Marines in the club Mac and I couldn't buy a drink. Whenever we'd finish one drink there would be two fresh ones sitting there.
We were sure glad we had the next day to recuperate before getting on an airplane back to the States.
Happy Birthday, Marines, and my sincere regards to the Air Force.

The farm and the Allis were sold and I have spent a lifetime working on farms throughout the country. I promised myself that one day I would own an Allis. That time event
